Postscript of 2019 NTUOMIH Alumni Reunion
“Either I will find a way, or I will make one.” – Philip Sidney, Poet
We started to prepare the last OMIH Alumni Reunion at the beginning of this year. “Why the last time?” was frequently asked by the alumni.
In the year of 1993, the Institute of Occupational Medicine and Industrial Hygiene (OMIH) and the College of Public Health (CPH) of National Taiwan University (NTU) were established together, becoming the first graduate institute specializing at occupational health. On August of 2019, OMIH will merge with the Institute of Environmental Health and rename as Institute of Environmental and Occupational Health Science (EOHS). That’s why the reunion event was started at 12:26. From 1993 to 2019, during 26 years, OMIH has cultivated 483 doctors and masters specializing in occupational medicine and industrial hygiene.
The first OMIH Alumni Reunion was held on June 17th, 2000, at the lobby of No.2 Building (current Medical Humanity Museum), the same venue as this year. At that time, the Alumni Association of OMIH was established and aimed to promote the connection between alma mater and alumni, strong the social image and professional development, and raise the occupational medicine and industrial hygiene in Taiwan. As the graduation speech of the first chairman of the alumni reunion, Prof. Hsien-Wen Kuo, given the words: “When I’m teaching or researching, I always encourage myself by the spirit and attitude to the research of teachers in NTU and hope the pupil outdoes the master.” Currently, the alumni of OMIH play a vital role in any kinds of field, concern the underprivileged groups, and achieve the core value of public health social justice. OMIH is proud of the outstanding performance of our alumni!
Lastly, thanks for the participation of alumni, the preparation of staff members, and the support of teachers. I wish you all the best, health and happiness.
